Turn panic into play
PeDIA, The Pediatric Device for Induction of Anesthesia
For children, undergoing surgery is already unsettling, and the process of induction is often the most traumatizing part. Often kids will kick and scream, believing they’re being trapped by the gas or suffocated by the mask. The experiences create negative emotional scarring that can last weeks, months or even years.
Specially designed for children undergoing surgery, the Pediatric Device for Induction of Anesthesia device, or “PeDIA,” for short, includes a colorful whistling balloon, providing kids with something fun to focus on and turning a stressful moment into a lighter one.
Whether they’re squeezing the balloon and focusing on its whistle or directly putting themselves to sleep by breathing the gas through balloon delivery, the PeDIA balloon captivates children’s attention, allowing their active participation in the induction process.
It’s a simple way to add a brighter touch to the medical experience, ease anxiety and bring smiles to patients, parents and staff.
This unique approach—presenting an interactive, familiar toy-like device—not only diverts children’s focus from the impending procedure but also significantly reduces the anxiety and resistance commonly associated with mask induction. The aim is to decrease the anxiety felt by over 50% of pediatrics as well as parents and staff.
The PeDIA can be used alone as a mask-free device or, for younger children, with an anesthesia mask.
