How a suction catheter works
A suction catheter is designed to help clear the patient’s airway by removing secretions. It is ideal for patients who are unable to effectively clear their own airway, such as those on ventilators, with tracheostomies or compromised cough reflexes. The suction catheter is inserted into the airway and connected to the suction source. It gently extracts accumulated secretions, helping to keep the airway open and functional.

How a suction catheter benefits patients

Improved breathing and oxygenation
By clearing blockages, the suction catheter allows air to flow freely in and out of the lungs, supporting improved oxygen exchange.

Reduced risk of infection
A suction catheter helps lower the likelihood of bacterial growth and complications like pneumonia by clearing secretions.

Improved comfort
A suction catheter relieves patients from the sensation of congestion or choking.
